The Dutch mezzo soprano Anneleen Bijnen studied at the Rotterdam Conservatorium and obtained there the diploma of Performing Musician. During her education she mainly focused on concert repertoires, she also applied herself to the art of song as well as acquiring a vast experience in the oratorio field. With her warm and clear voice she has been able to assemble an extensive repertoire ranging from Mahlers’ Kindertotenlieder to Von Weberns’ Dehmel-liederen. And from De Falla’s Siete Canciones Populares till French repertoire as Chansons de Bilitis composed by Debussy.
Also in the area of oratorio she has earned her spurs with performances of Passionen by Bach, Händel’s Messiah, Masses by Mozart and Requiems by Verdi, Dvoràk and Duruflé. But she has also performed the Eighth Symphony by Mahler with famous Dutch orchestras under direction of conductors such as Jan Willem de Vriend and Henrik Schäfer.
After her formal training her interests and acquaintance with the phenomenon opera grew. In this way she could also apply her theatrical talents on stage. She sang many times the role of Cherubino in the Netherlands, Belgium and France; she was a guest of the Stuttgart Staatstheater as Nutrice in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea directed by the duo Jossie Wieler and Sergio Morabito. Anneleen Bijnen is a regular at the Dutch Opera; for example in the capacity of Kate Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in the production of Robert Wilson, initially directed by Edo de Waart and later on by Jaap van Zweden. he could furthermore be heard in different roles under conductors such as Hartmut Haenchen (Die Frau ohne Schatten from Richard Strauss) and Ed Spanjaard (Verdi’s Rigoletto), and she has worked under different directors such as Pierre Audi (Il Ballo delle Ingrate by Monteverdi, conducted by Christophe Rousset), conductor Christophe Rousset, Nikolaus Lehnhoff (Wagners’ Tannhäuser), and Monique Wagemakers (Page in Verdis Rigoletto). |
